Capacity development FRONTEX (BMVI)
The Swedish Coast Guard has participated in FRONTEX operations since 2009, with both aircraft and vessels. The participation in operations has now been formalized by the EU regulation 2019/1896 concerning the further development of the European Border and Coast Guard (EBCG). As the participation in operations will be with new conditions in the future, the Coast Guard has a project with three distinctive parts that will facilitate the participation in the EBCG. The parts are;
- The up-grading of the vessel KBV 202 to the minimum standards set by FRONTEX.
- A logistics plan prior, during and after participation in a FRONTEX operation.
- A long term strategy for participation in operations with staff and technical platforms.
