DiveSMART
DiveSMART (Dyksmart), a collaboration project on emergency preparedness and maritime resources, was funded by MSB (Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency) from 2013-2015. The project is a cooperation initiative between the Coast Guard and the Armed Forces.
The goal is to strengthen national diving ability in the event of a crisis. The idea for the project was conceived in conjunction with a lecture about the Costa Concordia accident. The challenges faced by the Italian divers in connection with the Costa Concordia accident are very similar to the challenges that could potentially arise in Swedish waters.
The project has nine national partners. the project is divided into four main areas:
- Development of a database that inventories diving expertise, equipment and mobilisation contacts; the database will be available to the country's emergency services
- Development of joint effort routines
- Joint exercises and training opportunities
- A future international dimension with focus on the Baltic countries.
In November 2015, the Coast Guard and the Armed Forces were awarded funding from the Baltic Sea Region Programme for the DiveSMART Baltic project.
