Assistance from the Swedish Coast Guard concerning damaged cables in the Baltic

The Swedish Police Authority has launched a preliminary investigation in response to the damaged cables in the Baltic Sea. The case is being led by a prosecutor within the Swedish Prosecution Authority.

The Swedish Police Authority monitors, validates and evaluates new information on a continuous basis to determine whether they need to take action. The Swedish Police Authority has requested assistance from the Swedish Coast Guard and the Swedish Armed Forces to gather and share information about the situation at sea. Among other things, the Swedish Coast Guard can contribute by collecting and sharing information, for example concerning ship movements or other phenomena at sea.

The damaged fiber cables run between Finland and Germany and between Sweden and Lithuania, both cables are partially located in the Swedish economic zone.

The Police encourages the general public to keep themselves updated with information published by national authorities, and not spread unverified rumours.
